Working
with clients to solve problems and respond to new opportunities
is a challenge we are often asked to meet. The recommendation
which follows is, we believe, an effective and efficient website
development plan of action.

and/or company • Specific information about products
and/or services provided by individual and/or company

Our
Website Development Process To create the site we
have described above, we would follow our standard development
process, which is:
Step 1 Develop/finalize the
overall content structure - this structure, usually called a
site map, will show how the site will be organized overall and
will conform to the agreed upon objectives for the site development
project.
Step 2 Develop the specific content
outline - this outline will list all of the specific information
that every section and every page of the site will contain.
It also serves as a checklist during the process of gathering
background information and content for the site.
Step
3 Write the actual content of the site - during this step
the copy that will go on every page will be written, including
the copy that will help people navigate the site.
Step
4 Create an overall design approach - the design approach
will provide a design for the home page, as well as the site-wide
navigation design. This approach will convey the site's general
look and feel. This step is typically developed near the end
of the preceding content copywriting/accumulation step.
Step
5 Design and program the site - all the copy is plugged
into the approved design approach and every page of the site
is built. This process includes programming of the site to function
properly.
Step 6 Test, debug and launch the
site - the final corrections are made, everything is checked
out to make sure it works, and the files are sent to the web
server computer.
At each step in this process, you provide
input, review, and approve the work. By following this process,
we arrive at a product everyone has shared in developing. In
addition, by following this process, we end up with a good,
fundamental web site that reflects your company's culture and
lays the groundwork for achieving your long-term goals.
Project
Launch As the site is being developed, we will post
the early developmental work to an area of our own site, or
on the client's web host server. This will allow you to review
the work as it is being developed. As the site nears completion,
it will need to be posted to the servers of the Web Site Hosting
Service you will use to host your site. We will assist in locating
the appropriate Web Site Hosting Service.
If you have
not done so already, you will also need to obtain an available
URL for your site. When obtaining a URL, a member of the client
company should be listed as the Administrative Contact for the
site. This will assure that the client maintains complete control
of the site.
The new site should be tested and working
on its hosting server before it is made "live". Selecting
an appropriate hosting service and getting your site up on that
service is extremely important. Our recommendations will include
web-hosting services that we have worked with successfully in
the past.
